The eagerly anticipated Indian Premier League auction is scheduled to occur within the next month. In preparation for the 2024 season, teams have proactively commenced their restructuring process well in advance of the auction date.

This overhaul has been made possible through the utilization of the ‘IPL Trade Window,’ enabling franchises to either exchange players amongst themselves or acquire players through outright cash transactions. Notably, this dynamic also has repercussions on the team budgets, as the valuation of purchasing and subsequently trading players may exhibit variations.

Explore all the essential details concerning the IPL trade window with the IPL 2024 Trade Window Rules:

  • Franchises have the flexibility to either exchange players among themselves or engage in all-cash deals for player acquisitions.
  • The IPL governing council retains the authority to grant final approval for trades.
  • In situations where multiple franchises express interest in a particular player, the selling franchise holds the privilege to select the team to which the player is transferred.
  • Prior consent from the player is mandatory before any trading or transfer process.
  • Franchises are not allowed to trade ‘icon’ players.
  • For the IPL Trade Deadline, teams must submit their retention and trade lists by November 26. This crucial date marks the final day for player trades.
  • The cumulative retention and trade lists will determine the ultimate purse of each team in the franchise.
